WHERE’S MONROE?

I attended a peace march and rally this afternoon at 38th and Illinois. Local community activists and residents were protesting the string of killings in the area. Three people have been murdered in the area over the past couple weeks. One person conspicuously absent from the march was Council President Monroe Gray.

The killings all took place in Gray’s district so you think he would have shown up. Gray had promised he would be there, but he was a no show.

Had he been there he would have seen the residents march from 35th to 38th and Illinois singing and declaring peace in the streets.

Had he been there he would have also seen the dozen or so abandoned homes and buildings the residents passed as they walked those three blocks.

Had he been there he would have prayed with the citizens in the McDonald’s parking lot at 38th and Illinois where a young man was gunned down in the parking lot.

Had he been there he would have been able to look down Illinois street and see a vibrant downtown skyline, while less than 10 minutes away are people who live in fear of violence everyday.

It would have been nice had he been there, but maybe he had something else better to do. What’s ironic is that most of Gray’s support in District 8 is south of 38th street. I hope his constituents remember that on November 6th.

I don’t know where Monroe is, but his absence on anything remotely resembling a leadership position is hardly news, and yet on the ‘other’ talk show, he stated he had no intentions of leaving his presidential role, and that ‘republican efforts to negatively campaign against him would backfire’.
Newsflash: Pointing out multiple mistakes of a legal, business and professional nature is not “negative campaigning”, but it is giving the voters an informed vote. If Gray is who the Democrat party and district 8 want to represent themselves, then they may as well abdicate majority-ship to the Republicans, as his act is as worn out as the patent leather on a pimps’ shoe.

Monroe is who his district wants and Monroe is what they get. Conditions and crime will continue to worsen in that district and the same ones who marched today will have been the same ones who reelect him to office. It makes no sense other than they do not trust a white candidate……..and a Republican one at that.
This same pattern we have seen before ad nauseum in Cleveland, Baltimore, Detroit, Camden, St.Louis etc, etc, etc.
Quality of life issues are not in Bart’s or Monroe’s vision………only cash, and lots of it.

Talking about crime, has anyone checked out Barbara Malone’s arrest record. She’s the Republican at-large council candidate. Also might be worth checking out Harry Liggett’s arrest for check deception. He’s another GOP council candidate.

Ahhh…dumpster diver is here and trying to change the subject of the thread.

The problem is the walk was undoubtedly going by some of the peashake houses and people would have come out to yell hello if Monroe had walked by!

  • That is funny

You got a laugh from me Anon 8:23, thanks for that.

Monroe wasn’t going to waste a perfect weather golf day for the voters of his district. Golf is more important than representing his district.

Are the arrest records you mentioned similar to Ron Gibsons, ie arrest but no conviction? Funny how to mention Gibsons arrest is to be “negative campaigning” yet to mention anyone else is somehow ok. The ‘rats are getting desperate. Speaking of mentioning character and how it may influence a vote, Lonnell Conley looked and sounded perturbed during a televised hearing today, and cryptically mentioned how “in a few days we’ll all be discussing a candidates character. He really needs to be careful here, as his conduct as majority leader and husband of the MDC chair reeks of lack of character. Although the ads running against him are childish and idiotic, he’d do best to not try and fight fire with fire.

Best moment of the day: Joanne Sanders bragging about how she and the rest of the incumbent D caucus have “increased crime” in the city. Priceless.

Monroe wouldn’t walk past a pea shake, he’d go in…

Forgot, you may also want to look in Republican Mike McQuillen’s arrest record.
