THE JURY IS STILL OUT
The blogosphere is going a buzz today with “commentary” regarding Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson’s appearance at a tax forum at the Light of the World Church. The forum started at 5 p.m. and lasted a couple hours. The Mayor had to leave early, which usually is no big deal because he is a busy person with heavy schedule. However what’s stirring the controversy is before the Mayor left he told the audience he had to go to another inter-faith meeting. Later that night he is on national television at the Colts’ game with a 110-year woman who had never attended a game. That raised the ire of the bloggers who’ve accused the Mayor of lying.
I am not going out on that limb. However it doesn’t look good when you tell the audience in a church that you’re on your way to an interfaith meeting and less than an hour later you show up on television at a football game, it doesn’t do much for your credibility. I’m sure the Mayor has a logical explanation for his actions. And I’m sure a lot of people would like to hear it.
NOTE: Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell called me this morning to tell me the Mayor recorded the interview prior to coming the tax forum and then went to the interfaith event.

Since the game started 4 or 430- he had enough time to do and/or record the interview and make it to the forum around 5:15.

Bart Lies!
October 1st, 2007 at 9:45 am
He recorded the interview before and during the first part of the game, went to the property tax forum, and then attended the interfaith ceremony.

So where was the Interfaith service he went to? Why doesn’t someone who attended step up and say they saw him? It just looks like he wanted to DUCK OUT of addressing the constiuents.

Spangler noticed the TV in the background.
If anybody recorded it, have a good look at what is on the screen. That might give one a good indication about when the Mayor was caught on screen.

I have it DVR’ed. I will sneak a peek when i get home.
October 1st, 2007 at 10:37 am
Abdul, you should understand (as a broadcaster) that there is live coverage and taped coverage. This was taped coverage.
October 1st, 2007 at 10:59 am
Not if the big screen TV says 14-13, Stevie.
October 1st, 2007 at 11:24 am
Nice try Campbell. Tell another lie to cover up the first lie. Get a clue you moron!

When the going gets tough, da Mayah sends out his “Baghdad Bob” for damage control.
October 1st, 2007 at 11:31 am
14-13… this is truly amazing.
October 1st, 2007 at 11:33 am
Isn’t it peculiar that the anonymouis commenters here demanding honesty, truthfulness and openness all conceal their identities and are ashamed to use their own names? What are they hiding?
October 1st, 2007 at 11:43 am
Ethics is not alive and well in the Mayor’s office. We need to determine what the other meet was and if there was any documentation like minutes taken. The question I have is did the Mayor purchase the Colt’s ticket himself? If not, then that is probably a kickback.

Wilson: you are banned from this blog…why do you continue to trespass thru the tulips?
October 1st, 2007 at 12:32 pm
I can indeed confirm that the video you saw on the CBS telecast of the Colts/Broncos game was videotaped about 15 minutes before the game started yesterday afternoon. I worked the game for CBS and the video was when Gertrude arrived to the Mayor’s suite at the dome. CBS just rolled the video in during the game.
October 1st, 2007 at 1:02 pm
Give it a rest Wilson. Post under your full name from now on if this sort of transparency is so damn important to you.
And by the way, aren’t you banned from this blog?
October 1st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Stuttering Steve in damage control mode is not a pretty sight!
October 1st, 2007 at 1:16 pm
Indykent pardon us for being skeptical - the TV in the background should tell the tale.
October 1st, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Can someone post a high-res version of the Peterson appearance on CBS?
October 1st, 2007 at 1:47 pm
My DVR Shows the clip played just before 1/2 time - about 5:30ish.
October 1st, 2007 at 1:53 pm
It’s the monitors behind the ladies that would be the key. Unfortunately, the camera angle kept the niece in front of them most of the time.
There were players on a field, but I couldn’t see if it was during warm up or in between game plays. Somebody who recorded it at home will have to review it, hopefully on the BIG screen TV. Any chance of it being recorded in HDTV?
October 1st, 2007 at 2:07 pm
Why not just call up whatever production entity that covered the game and ask when the Peterson insert was recorded? Some production assistant has the info.
October 1st, 2007 at 2:07 pm
My DVR copy showed part of that screen but I can not tell what the game is or what time it was in the game. No score showed up.
But is there any proof he went to where he said he was going to ? OR did he head back and watched the rest of the game ?
:)

The CBS feed says that it was shown at 1:49 to go in the seccond quarter…5:15ish…
In the back ground you see close circuit television in the suite and it does appear that a live game is going…it was 14-13 at the time…
The Mayor doesn’t have his coat and Tie on that he had on at the Church…sleeves rolled up…Shirt is no longer crisp from the earlier church dialogue…HMMMM…
Come on Steve….tell the truth…Just where was that interfaith dialogue taking place….Kokomo?
Why won’t you face your constituents?
October 1st, 2007 at 3:15 pm
Regardless of whether or not the Mayor’s interview was recorded, he left the forum at LOTW to go to an inter-faith meeting. Anyone have details of that meeting? When, Where, With Whom? There’s proof in THAT pudding.
October 1st, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Wilson, you posted again without using your full name. I mean, you posted again on a blog where you are supposedly banned. Surely your benefactors might want to use you to find Monroe Gray’s non-existent “work” records.
October 1st, 2007 at 4:24 pm
I am amused once again that my obsessive stalker is trying to divert attention away from Mayor Peterson again by repeatedly posting about my commenting. Oh well…
October 1st, 2007 at 4:32 pm
I am the CBS cameraman that posted earlier regarding when Bart was shown in his suite with Gertrude. Being a citizen of Indianapolis and definately voting this November, I am not a fan of Mayor Peterson and plan to vote for Ballard. But in this case, he was not at the game as you all suggest. I did not pay attention to what was on the screens behind as I was getting ready for play starting up again in the game after the timeout.
October 1st, 2007 at 4:55 pm
Wilson,
It’s so obvious that the only reason you are blustering about everyone’s identity is to try and discredit their opinion solely based on the fact that they won’t hand out their full name (do you want their SSN too?). Learn how to argue, Wilson, because that tactic is a logical fallacy known as a “personal attack”. It means that you are substituting personal attacks for evidence, more than likely because you have none to give.
The anonymity of posters on these forums is irrelevant so long as they are not the elected official in question. All that matters is that they are a tax paying citizen. They do not need to state their full name in order to receive answers about whether or not the mayor is telling the truth. The only identifying factor one needs in order to question the Mayor or any other elected official is this - TAXPAYER.
October 1st, 2007 at 5:13 pm
Anybody can say they are anybody on the Internet - even say they are a taxpayer! Opinions are worth precisely the integrity of the person stating it.
This is not the forum to be demanding public officials answer anything. Call their office or write letters. It beats standing on a street corner and shouting questions to the wind and passing cars…

I’ve never been to Roumania…
October 1st, 2007 at 5:21 pm
I suppose by your own convoluted “logic” then, that since you called yourself the “Queen of Roumania” rather than by your actual name, that I should disregard your opinion? Yet if I should disregard it, then doesn’t that mean I should actually NOT go by your logic and therefore not disregard your opinion? Oh ho, silly Wilson. So contradictory.
Elected officials should answer for their actions. Period. Perhaps you should ask yourself why it’s more important to question the integrity of everyone BUT the elected official in question?
October 1st, 2007 at 5:28 pm
If the closed circuit TV in the background shows 14-13, that was the halftime score…oh, say around 6:25-6:30ish? Right after he left the forum?
October 1st, 2007 at 6:25 pm
I totally see how this could have been taped in advanced, however the real question is where was the Inner-Faith meeting he attended? By now we should have heard from someone who was at this meeting. I have followed this story from blog to blog, it’s hard to believe he is not telling the truth until we hear confirmation that he was where he said he was going to be. If he blew the meeting off to attend the game, I will have lost what remaing respect I had for his administration of the Mayor’s Office.
Oh and by the way Wilson is on several blogs asking people to say who they are, he only wants this information so he can start dredging up unfounded personal attacks at you, it’s what he is known for.
October 1st, 2007 at 6:31 pm
It’s what he has made a living doing….
October 1st, 2007 at 6:46 pm
So, Wilson, with your well known research skills, maybe you can produce the documentation that shows what work Monroe Gray is doing for the IFD that justifies his salary. When the Star is asking for the documents, you need to come up with a better answer than “old school”.

I was at the tax meeting Sunday night with my wife.
Bart got pounded. He looked like a baby harp seal being clubbed. He didn’t stand a chance. He stated he had to leave at 6:00 to attend an interfaith church meeting which had been planned months ago and guess where he was seen on national tv?
Melyssa D. hammered him real bad. so did a couple of other ladies.
Where were you Wilson! Maybe you should grow a spine and come out of your closet and attend some of these meetings.
October 1st, 2007 at 8:52 pm

“I totally see how this could have been taped in advanced, however the real question is where was the Inner-Faith meeting he attended?”
Agreed. How come not ONE person who was at this “inner-faith meeting” stepped forward?
