State Has Surplus! Politicans Get Buckets for Rainy Day!

Indiana State Auditor Tim Berry is reporting a surplus this morinng. Indiana took in more than $1 Billion than it spent. However, after meeting its statutory committments, Indiana actually has about $250 million in the bank. I can just see every elected official in Marion County getting their hands out saying the money should be used for property tax relief.

That is a bad idea. First, there are other counties in Indiana that also have property tax problems. Second, and more importantly, giving elected officials more money is like giving Whitney Houston more crack. All it is going to do is make the problem worse.

The planets are now in alignment for real government reform in Indiana. There’s no need to spoil it by giving politicians something they don’t need, which is more of your money!

I swear I didn't write that comment! You know how I really feel about Mitchie!!!
  • God Bless The Governor
Everyone and I mean everyone can look to the Governor to lead us out of this.

It's time to start cutting out city slack and fat.

Perhaps Bart Peterson should get some pointers from our Governor, who is the only one in this whole debacle who is doing (or saying) any thing that makes sense.

I think this is great news. The state was in the red big time when Mitch took over. Since over 90% of property taxes goto local governments why should the state use its money to solve a local problem. If they do it will be a one time fix to save their jobs and nothing more. Real tax reform is what is needed. Enact the Fair Tax!!!!!!!!!!!

How the hell is giving money for properety tax relief giving money to the elected offcials? Yes they need to make budget cuts. Yes the tax payer needs relief. Do both. Now.

Isn't interesting how Auditor Berry failed to mention that the surplus was helped along by the gas tax revenues. I'm all for patting each other on the back, but this surplus was - in large part- due to high gas prices and not the efficiency that was touted.

Berry and Daniels need to allow honesty to at least creep into their statements from time to time.

Where the hell have the true Republicans in this state gone? I have not heard one Republican politician stand up and say we have to tighten our belts and cut spending. Hell, I could have gotten the same bull$hit by voting for a bunch of weeny democrats. All I have heard from our Republican leaders so far is just a rearrangement of the deck chairs on the Titanic. Ronald Reagan must be spinning in his grave.

You are absolutely right! We need to keep their feet to the fire!
