More Conflicting Interests

You’ve already heard me talk about potential conflicts of interest with tonight’s Council vote on the public safety tax, however there are much bigger issues to consider beyond the tax.

Having government employees serve on the same board that oversee them can turn into a land mine of problems. What if a government employee wants to trade a vote for a day off? What if a supervisor wants to discipline someone, but is afraid to because they serve on the local finance committee and has oversight their agency?

The response to this argument is usually people saying that the public knows what government employees do for a living and they can make the call at the voting booth. The problem with that is that while it may be easy to know if someone is voting for a pay raise, it takes a little more effort to find who got a vacation day in exchange for voting for a tax abatement.

I’m not saying this is happening, but can we really say for sure it doesn’t?

Similar to the NBA ref(s). . . you wouldn’t think that would happen, but it sure did.

Currently Monroe Gray and Vern Brown have no meaningful responsibilities for the Fire Dept, yet both make over $80k in cash & benefits & have city cars.

They report to nobody at the fire dept.

Yeah, nothing like a bunch of self-serving individuals costing us all a lot of money.

…and Abdul-Hakim might be getting secret payments from the Indiana Swine Association to train pigs to fly – perhaps – maybe – who knows for sure?

I know for sure that Wilson should be banned.

Wilson, obtain a copy of Monroe Gray’s and Vern Brown’s record of time worked, a public record.

Then ask for a copy of their job description. Now, ask the person who the paperwork shows to be their supervisor 1) If they’ve seen either in the past 30 days and 2) For a listing of the meaningful work product they have produced.

You will find they report to nobody, and have no work product; they do make an extraordinary salary & get a city car.

As “Muckraker” (aka J-T A.) knows full well, GaryJ did precisely this research on Brown and Gray — he debunked those myths and fabrications being bandied about so casually by anonymous nobodies…

No, Wilson, the suspicions were confirmed as valid. Their record of time worked was very strange and did not mesh with Fire Dept business.

  • Bill Brown

I can tell you for a fact that if any firefighter was accused of conflict of interest except sweetpea he would have been suspended pending an investigation. Our spineless fire chief couldn’t do anything to sweetpea because of his position on the ccc. If he would have taken action against sweetpea he would have lost his (phoney kiss the mayor and councils a$$) job

When will politicians represent the people who voted them in. Where is the savings that the merger created. Before anyone should voted for a tax increase, they should find out what the voters want. does the members on the council have any idea what the mayor is asking for or do that just rubber stamp whatever the mayor ask for?
