SO MUCH FOR LEAVING TOWN TODAY

I was supposed to be back in Springfield this afternoon, but instead I spent the day running around Marion County following up on voter problems. We all know this morning was a disaster. One hundred and seventy-five inspectors didn’t show up. A lot of polls didn’t open on time. A number of people didn’t get a chance to vote. Beth White has apologized. Democrats are looking to figure out how to fix this problem in November. There was one precinct on the near southwest side of town which had been closed finally opened around 2 p.m. And in another precinct, they were so short-handed, a man who came in to vote was asked to be an inspector. This has been a big giant cluster(you know what that rhymes with truck). But what makes this story so sad, is after all these years of Democrats yelling about the incompetence of Republican-run elections, in the smallest voter-participating election they drop the ball. I believe everybody gets a chance to screw up and gets a mulligan. Beth White has used hers.

By the way, if you didn’t get to vote today and you tried to you’re out of luck. The polls will not stay open past 6 p.m..

I can now start my vacation. See you Monday.

I love ya Abdul but have to disagree with you. This is our democracy she screwed with, no free pass or mulligan on that. She should resign, she is a disgrace. The Democrats can’t even admit to their screw up.

Where is the spin on this from our “favorite” Dem? The outrage from Dems last election seems hilarious now.

Three precinct voting sites in Center Township DID NOT OPEN AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One in Pike Township didn’t open.
Apathy, apathy and more apathy. Remember back in the stone age when there were actual, bonifide, give a damn party precinct committeemen, ward chairmen, county chairmen and district chairmen?
Electoral process, especially primaries, have gone the way of the 8 track tape.
Screw the primaries and move the whole thing back into party conventions where it used to be. Primaries were made open to allow ALL party faithful to pick their party’s candidates and each year the turnout of party workers and voters gets smaller and smaller and then we endo up with this.
Let the parties elect their candidates in convention like they used to. Maybe folks would take an interest again but I highly doubt it.

Funny, here is what Beth had to say to Channel 8 on Monday, May 7. What a difference a day makes:

    May 7, 2007 04:48 PM EDT

As absentee voting wrapped up Monday morning the new Marion County Clerk, Democrat Beth White, predicted a smooth election.

“I feel like the inspectors are better prepared than they have ever been,” she said.

A year ago problems with the programming of some voting machines led to uncounted ballots and concerns about some election results.

Ballot boxes are already on location at 917 precincts. But there are still questions about whether enough poll workers will show up.

“Beth White has set the standard for her job at perfection and I think the Democratic party for years has set the standard at perfection,” Walker said.

And while Republicans may seek political advantage, White’s reputation is on the line.

“I’m feeling cautiously optimistic that we’ll have a pretty trouble free day tomorrow,” she said.
