Maybe Indianapolis Needs A Little Police Brutality
I don’t like starting my day with bad news, but I did. A man was shot this morning outside of Kroger on Kentucky Avenue on the city’s southwest side. Over the weekend a woman was stabbed to death. And I was told this morning, a suspect who was arrested for home invasion and shooting at a police officer was let out on $10,000 bond.
I don’t think anyone could argue against the statement that crime is out of control in this city. And I think the only way to get it back is for Indianapolis to get the reputation to be the place where criminals and bad behavior are not welcome. And I think the only way to do that is to for the cops to start knocking some people outside the head.
Once criminals realize they cant come to Indy and do their dirty needs the imports will drop off and home-grown criminals will go underground and stay there.
I know, it may seem wrong to advocate police brutality, but I would rather have a reputation as a city for being too tough on criminals than one that allows them walk scott free.
If you have a better idea, I’m willing to listen. But remember, things are out of control and I’m in no mood to give someone a hug, but smack them with a nightstick.

Actually, I’m all for bringing the National Guard home to patrol certain ‘hot spots” in cities like Indy…a littel quasi-martial law might be jst what the doctor ordered.
Something needs to be dones other than having the PDs walking on eggs daily for fear of “offending” people.
Some cities call it “community-oriented policing”. That’s all well and good WHEN the community wants to get involved.
If not, you have got to get back to basics, as in good policing BY the officers and admins…period.

Clinton was able to get 200 extra cops for Indianapolis. Crime decreased! Bush and his rubber-stamp GOP Congress then cut off that funding to make the streets of Baghdad safe: $2 billion per week. Bad national priority…

OMG! I think I need to go for a physical – it seems that I might need meds. Either that or Wilson is finally taking his – we’re actually in agreement on something!
Bob, With regards to the National Gaurd – wrong idea. If we need to rely on military force, we may as well dump the Constitution in the process. Just look at what happened in New Orleans where 1000′s of law abiding citizens had their guns taken away at gunpoint. There’s no such thing as pseudo or quasi martial law. It’s an either/or scenario.
The criminals do enough to threaten us already. Taking away the rest of our rights isn’t the answer. We need to clear out non-violent prisoners on marijuana charges etc – increase their fines instead, and use the extra jail space and cash from fines to take the dangerous thugs off the streets for a long time.

Bart Peterson sent out the wrong signal when he caved under pressure from Black Expo organizers a couple of years ago when the police were criticized for enforcing the laws. Crime should be handled in the same manner regardless if you’re a white, brown or black person. To signal that one race would be let off the hook for an annual gathering sent a signal to the entire community that enforcement may or may not occur.
While the Peterson’s action did not relate to murders, it did help set the stage for creating an environment that the city would be soft on crime.

Hell hath frozen over….wilson finally posted something that makes sense. It is true, Clinton’s crime bill was a good thing, and crime was down. It is the only thing Clinton did that was worthwhile.

There’s a lot of truth in 11:04′s comments.
Regarding the clinton crime bill, while it provided money for extra officers it should not be the federal governments responsibility to provide money for local services. My 2007 property taxes were more than my federal and state taxes combined. What are they doing with all of that money? I know a good chunk goes towards the schools but the rest????

Here’s a little bit of info that the gun control crowd wishes would fade away:

Why Doesn’t The Media Visit Kennesaw?
By Chuck Baldwin
——————————————————————————–
Kennesaw, GA’s
Mandatory Gun Law
A Proven Success
11-6-99
The New American magazine reminds us that March 25th marked the 16th anniversary of Kennesaw, Georgia’s ordinance requiring heads of households (with certain exceptions) to keep at least one firearm in their homes.
The city’s population grew from around 5,000 in 1980 to 13,000 by 1996 (latest available estimate). Yet there have been only three murders: two with knives (1984 and 1987) and one with a firearm (1997).
“After the law went into effect in 1982, crime against persons plummeted 74 percent compared to 1981, and fell another 45 percent in 1983 compared to 1982. And it has stayed impressively low. In addition to nearly non-existent homicide (murders have averaged a mere 0.19 per year), the annual number of armed robberies, residential burglaries, commercial burglaries, and rapes have averaged, respectively, 1.69, 31.63, 19.75, and 2.00 through 1998.”
With all the attention that has been heaped upon the lawful possession of firearms lately, you would think that a city that requires gun ownership would be the center of a media feeding frenzy. It isn’t. The fact is I can’t remember a major media outlet even mentioning Kennesaw. Can you? The reason is obvious. Kennesaw proves that the presence of firearms actually improves safety and security. This is not the message that the media want us to hear. They want us to believe that guns are evil and are the cause of violence. The facts tell a different story.
What is even more interesting about Kennesaw is that the city’s crime rate decreased with the simple knowledge that the entire community was armed.
The bad guys didn’t force the residents to prove it. Just knowing that residents were armed prompted them to move on to easier targets. Most criminals don’t have a death wish. There have been two occasions in my own family when the presence of a handgun averted potential disaster. In both instances the gun was never aimed at a person and no shot was fired. Yet, in both cases the thugs bent on criminal mischief decided to take their ambitions elsewhere and my family remained safe. Only God knows what would have happened if a firearm had not been handy.
Yes, there are times when gun accidents occur. There are many more accidents involving automobiles, airplanes, bathroom shower stalls and backyard swimming pools, however. And let’s not forget that freedom is risky business. Freedom allows people to make mistakes recognizing that the alternative is worse.
A local newspaper columnist recently said that other nations are free without possessing firearms. He fails to see the obvious fact that people who are not free to own firearms are not free. Many people live their entire lives and never know a day of real freedom. And, while I’m sure that there are those who would choose to live without freedom, there are some of us who would rather die free than live enslaved.

I’m confused: are you a lawyer who is actually advocating the now the law?

Correction with apologies:
I’m still confused: are you a lawyer who is actually advocating the police should now break the law?

Abdul, they did that with Rodney King and look what that got us?!?! Come back to reality here. The courts (NOT THE POLICE) are failing us, in particular JUDGES. They are NOT held accountable for there actions (and voting a for an R/D is not accountable enough for the idiot straight ticket voters). If you are convicted with a handgun without permit, give them the max. If you are caught with cocaine or the hard narcotics, for the 4 or 6 time, max sentence.

It seems like every day starts out with bad news of another crime in our city. I do not think that police brutality is the answer though. I think that the department zones need to be looked at and changed to put more officers in the high crime riddled areas, also having the officers walk beats again in the high crime areas would help. One bad thing about the rising crime is something Amos Brown said today on his show,” the puzzling thing is that most of the crimes being committed do not fit any patterns”. We need to stiffen the penalties and not let the law breakers get off scott free, we need to show them “we mean business” and if you “do the crime you WILL DO THE TIME”. Most think ” we’ll, I have a good lawyer and he or she can get me out of it “, we need to stop the plea bargaining and put these dangerous people behind bars. Then there is the over crowding of our jails, there can be some people that are in jail now on minor crimes that can be released to make room for the bad thugs that really need to be in jail and off our streets.
