I'd assume most people are live and let live libertarian types who don't really care what other people might be doing behind closed doors. I see on Advance Indiana that the House Rules Committee killed the bill, so I guess the issue goes back off the radar. In these people's minds, this sort of Otherness can be tied to the fact that the times are changing (never mind that times are always changing) and the change makes folks feel uneasy. Combine Otherness with Uneasiness and Religion and you have a potent emotional motivator. Looked at rationally it's no big deal, but at an emotional level, I can see how the issue could be compelling if you didn't really know much about gays and felt uneasy about your place in the world as the status quo shifts.
