Are you actually naive enough to believe that blacks really control the numbers games in this city? You’ve been putting money from the shakes in the white man’s pocket from day one. That’s not racist, that’s just the way it is.
If blacks want a race track or a casino then they can go build one. Last time I checked it was still a free market.

5:50 PM 33 Presently, the white majority seem to be earning all of the profits from all of the legal games. How many African Americans own casinos, or race tracks in the state. Owners would apply for a gaming license like all the others. Your racist attitude shows.

Why does there need to be legislation to make the shakes legal. They WERE made legal. It’s called the Hoosier Lottery. Organized crime will still run their own operations just like they do now even if the shake houses were legalized.
Besides, isn’t a bit racist to allow special gaming priviledges just for the blacks only. Fat chance that’s going to go anywhere in the legislature. If legalized does that mean that whites can open up shop in the inner city too across the street or next door to the black ticket houses and run their own games? There would be quite a body count if that happened. Organized crime doesn’t like competition.

6:22 PM Your comments do not apply to the Democrat support group for elected state legislators they have supported could introduce the legislation to make pea shakes a legal game in the state. Law enforcement could focus on more serious crimes being committed in the city.

12:18’s comments are odd…Carson, Gray, Duncan, Drummer, et al, can’t introduce legsilation at the Statehouse.

Are the IndyUndercover kindergarteners playing with keyboards again?

Gov. Bayh made no attempt to shut down the peashakes. Can we get a few things straight here?

1. Governors have almost no power in this situation, except to direct the state police superintendent.

2. Making all gambling legal might make things better. But it’s not legal now.

3. Social pressures notwithstanding, the geography and political heritage of peashake operators should have no influence whatsoever in determining whether prosecution ensues.

It looks to me like Abdul, the new kid on the reporting block, may have hit a triple here…Mayor Bart has little to worry about his re-election. Prior, if you beleive the rumors, no Democrat dared challenge the peashakes because of their backers’ political pull.

By the by, for anyone who looks at election numbers, the folks who have been screaming for more power rarely deliver the numbers they should deliver. Now, if Bart’s re-election is almost assured (it is), maybe his political handlers finally realize the dog always barked but had little bite.

It’s still a fact: more Center Township voters stay home than vote. If their political bosses woke up to that fact, and did more to up their numbers, it might be a different story.

Finally, hopefully, those Center Township bosses will get their due, and it will be death by their own sword.

Oddly fitting.

When Evan Bayh was governor, he wanted to shut down the pea shake houses when the Hoosier lottery came on line. Bingo for the Catholic Church was legalized, he received their backing and votes. Pari-mutual betting, Casino gambling, pull tabs. Betting pools in government and corporate offices for the NCAA, Super Bowl, NBA playoffs, 500 Mile race, Brickyard 400 remain illegal. The Claypool Courts has a legal betting parlor in the heart of downtown. The major white financial contributors to both political parties own these operations. They want the “black dollars” in gambling too.

Congresswoman Carson, Senator Howard, Rep. Bill Crawford, Councilman Monroe Gray, Constable Tony Duncan, Trustee Carl Drummer all need to sponsor a bill in the General Assembly next year and get Pea Shakes legalized. Each have benefited financially from these businesses. Or just maybe, they don’t want it to be legal. No more shake downs, less street money for their political campaigns if they were legal.

Make all forms of gambling legal in Indiana. Tax it and hire more police to go after the illegal drug traffickers just as aggresively as they are the gamblers. Drug sales and addiction are the root for many of the serious crimes today. The dope peddlers have nothing to fear while they are helping to destroy more lives than the games of chance are doing

. Mayor Peterson speak up. We can’t hear you! Your focus is wrong as Mayor. This city is not safe while you continue to support wealthy developers building momuments. This city is going to hell in a handbasket of more bank robberies, carjackings, murders, assaults, and homelessness. Take your head out of the sand and look around this city. Do you see what we see?

Abdul, it’s a election year. Know who Tuffy Mitchell was. He ran the Numbers in Indy for decades until the late 60’s. And guess what? Tuffy was a smart boy. He shut down during City Elections. Good advice to the present gang.
