Better Late Than Never

Marion County Republicans finally have a slated candidate for Mayor. At a special caucus tonight, the GOP overwhelmingly approved ex-Marine and Indiana Business College instructor Greg Ballard as their candidate for Mayor. Ballard told the crowd Indianapolis’ growing crime rate will be his priority. He also says he wants to work to improve the quality of education in the city. He gave incumbent Mayor Bart Peterson credit for his work on charter schools, but says a lot more needs to be done. Ballard beat James Black, a fellow veteran, and former physical education teacher.

Ballard is a sharp guy, but Bart will be tough to beat even with crime spiraling out of control in Indianapolis, mainly because he has a couple million bucks sitting in the bank.

  • Abdul for Mayor

    (yawn)

So the Republicans finally get around to getting their act together and slating one candidate. Nice.

And the 37% of the people who don’t like Bart have someone to vote for.

If this guy cracks 40% with his “I’m Not Bart” platform, I’ll be surprised.

On your radio show this morning, he said he was going to spend the next month going to Republican clubs in the townships, spreading the word.

    Hilarious.

  • On The Green In Two

Reminds me of all those decades when Marion County Democrats could NEVER find a candidate to run for Mayor.I recall an old Democratic associate of mine during my political days named Brad Senden sacrificed himself at the alter as the only one willing to fill the top spot on the ticket. Most of the young Democrats involved today were not even born during those years and have yet to find what it is like not to win a major election, be out of power and more importantly, out of money. Life will be hell for them when that day comes and ultimately, it always does. Indiana political power is tied to the Governor not who is Mayor of this city or that.

  • Brad Was Great!

Brad is a friend, and he’s doing political consulting from warmer climes in California these days, mostly working on referenda, like school tax bonds.

    The worm does turn, eventually.

But anyone who thinks the governor alone has power in this state. is drinking bong water.

    Mayors are uber-powerful.

It is too bad it comes down to the one who has the most money, but what is sadder is the citizens of Indy who don’t want any better for themselves then the status quo.
