Political Potpourri

It’s been a while since I’ve written one of these, but there are a lot of little things going on around town so I thought I’d put them all in one place. Take them for what they are worth.

Don’t Smoke Them If You Have Them

The smoking ban in Marion County has apparently netted three violators. According to public health officials, Hair Dimension Hair Salon on 24th and Layfayette, The Loading Dock at 10th and Senate were both ticketed for violating the smoking ban and third bar was also ticketed. It’s good to know the air inside is clean, but the air outside is full of bullets because of the rise in crime.

Eastside GOP

I hear some Marion County Republican lawmakers sent out district surveys and one of the questions was about fire consolidation. It turns out the public on that side of town supported the measure so the survey was thrown out and a new one sent out with a question more favorable to the anti-consolidation forces. What a shock?

Kennedy Questionnaire

Speaking of questionnaires, I’m hearing Melina Kennedy, the Democratic candidate for Marion County Prosecutor is doing some polling. One of the questions, I’m told, is in regard to her law license. We reported a while back that Melina allowed her license to expire for nine months and later renewed three months before forming the committee to run for prosecutor. When we asked her campaign staff about it at the time they said it didn’t matter. I guess things change.

Brother Can You Spare $1200

Marion County GOP Chairman Mike Murphy sent an e-mail out to Republican members of the City-County Council regarding the party’s Spring reception. According to the e-mail, Murphy told the council members he’ll be counting on them to raise $1200 each. Scott Schneider, Lincoln Plowman and Bob Cockrum all got kudos. Murphy told the rest of the members that if they help out the County ticket, the County ticket will likely help them regain the Council next year. Some Council members I’ve spoken with (who have issues with Murphy) by the way, say they’ll donate to the candidates, but not the party. Anyone have change?
