		<description>Hello, Abdul.

No great shakes here, but I thought you'd like to know that when I returned home this evening, I had a classy robo-call on my answering machine from Marion County Clerk Candidate Beth White (D), one of my favorite people on the ballot this year, urging me to vote for her in Tuesday's primary. With pleasure, Beth!

More surprising: Just received -- at 8:45 p.m. on May 1 -- a live phone call from a worker for Jack Dugan (D), finally emerging at the last minute onto the voter radar screen in his challenge to the slated candidate, Frank Short, in the Democratic primary for Washington Township Trustee (this would be Washington Township of Marion County, that is).

The phone call did not appeal to me, not at all.

The script emphasized that Dugan wants to investigate the potential IFD-WTFD merger as part of IndyWorks. The script reminded me that Dugan is a WT firefighter. And there was a kicker that should been left out of the script: a tawdry attempt to leverage a ho-hum compliment from Sen. Evan Bayh. The comment from Bayh was generic and clearly demonstrated no specific interest in the Washington Township trustee race -- as if Sen. Bayh would get involved in any primary, much less at this level!

Real Democrats should know (1) that appealing for our votes by dissing IndyWorks is asking us to be a traitor to the mayor's worthy cause, (2) a firefighter running on an anti-IndyWorks or less-than-supportive IndyWorks stance is a rogue or a renagade, as the Firefighters Union is strongly in favor of IndyWorks, and (c) Frank Short has been around local government a long time, can be counted upon, and will be a partner in Washington Township for Mayor Peterson.

Well, by this time tomorrow night, Dugan's candidacy will likely be history. The phone call tonight gave ample evidence why it should be so. I hope this field report amuses anyone out there reading your post on the IB blog.

<description>If Greg had handled Carl's bankruptcy and divorce you might have a valid argument. It's not the "what" in this case that raised and eyebrow, but the "who."

<description>since Leerkamp gets grief for her use of outside counsel, why doesn't Brizzi get grief for using outside counsel? btw, that outside counsel is your friend Greg Garrison.
