The British Aren’t Coming, They’re Here!

You may have seen the blurb on the Drudge Report about how the Indianapolis Airport is run by foreigners, I’m sorry, “furreners”! It is true that BAA Indianapolis, LLC, that manages the airport and it’s security, is owned by BAA plc, which owns and operates several airports in the United Kingdom. However, BAA has been doing this since 1995, more than 10 years. The last time I flew out of the airport I didn’t see tea and crumpets or a torch or fag (that’s a lighter and cigarette). And Couplings and Benny Hill were not on the inflight movies. I don’t know what Drudge is trying to prove, but I wish the xenophobia would really go away. But then again most people who are xenophobic couldn’t spell it, so go figure.

What many are failing to realize is, this Portgate deal is not about whether foreign held companies manage our ports of entry, or not. It’s not about whether we like Arabs, or not.

It’s about this particular company being based in the UAE, where two of the 9/11 hijackers came from. And, how quickly the Administration was fast-tracking this deal through. Britain will not be a threat to the U.S. anytime soon, that’s a safe bet. But what if down the road there is a revolution in countries like the UAE and the new government is not friendly towards the U.S.? My biggest question is, how much will top ranking Dubai Ports officials have access to secret and sensitive information?

There may be nothing to the concerns of many, but that’s something to be decided after having a debate. That can be decided after all of the facts are laid out and the American people can be comfortable with it.
